Since 2001 Doctors For Life (DFL) has been reaching out to the orphans in poor communities across South Africa . Sadly everyday more and more children are orphaned and they, like all the orphans before them, are left to fend for themselves. DFL’s mission is to help feed, clothe and educate these unfortunate children in our midst. Thus Day Care Centres were established and today DFL cares for over 300 orphans in 28 centres. This initiative is called “Project Life Child”. Every month a driver takes the DFL truck over the green, scenic hills to deliver food supplies for four of the Life Child centres in KwaZulu Natal. The first stop is Greytown where the food is purchased from Metro. The workers at Metro willingly help the driver load the truck with the food, which is then delivered to the Life Child centers. After traveling over some very rough terrain to reach the various centers, the 4x4 truck and it’s driver are always eagerly greeted by the children and their care takers. Then everyone from youngest to oldest gladly helps to unload the food. Even some of the smallest children are handed a small can of food so that they too can participate. Everyone’s great enthusiasm to lend a hand shows their deep gratefulness.
Doctors For Life also shares the children’s gratitude. We would like to personally thank the manager of Greytown Metro, Mr. Rapson, for the kind services he offers. Not long ago he donated approximately 60 blankets to the orphans and this month he has blessed them with a donation of approximately R3000 worth of canned goods, cereals and other food. It is people like Mr. Rapson from Metro that will help the future of South Africa ’s orphans to not fade away. You can also help the countless number of helpless, orphaned children with cans of food, warm blankets, clothing etc by contacting Charity Mpungose at +27 (0) 31 -764 0443 or fax +27 (0) 31-764 0440 – mail@dfl.org.za.
