Malarlife contributes to "Aid to Africa"
15 August 2002

Artemisia annua anamed (A3) have been successfully planted in South Africa. Our findings concur with the findings of Anamed that this specific hybrid is 80-94% effective in the treatment of Malaria. A3 contains 10 times more Artemisinin (the most important ingredient in treating malaria) than wild forms of the plant from Asia. Up to date there is no drug resistance against artemisia (the active ingredient), in artemisa annua from Asia, even though it have been used for more than 2000 years in Asia. Artemisia is known for its fast antimalarial action. Combinations of Artemisia and other drugs (Quinine, chloroquine, SP) reduce the development of drug resistance of the latter.

It is part of our vision - to make affordable, quality medicine widely available in developing areas.
