August 16, 2008 Proposed Human Trafficking Bill Welcomed Doctors For Life International would like to congratulate the Sexual Offences Unit of the National Prosecuting Authority for the Draft Bill submitted to Parliament recently regarding Human Trafficking. The new legislation will enable the effective prosecution of all forms of human trafficking. The proposed Bill echoes evidence that was submitted by Doctors For Life as early as 2000 and although a bit overdue, it is nevertheless most welcome....[more]

May 12, 2008 Zavora Clinic Construction Continues The Dutch team is back in Zavora for the second phase (in total 4) of the construction of the medical clinic in Mozambique. Gerrit-Jan, a Dutch builder, is sweating it out with 3 other volunteers . The aim is to finish the walls and start with the roofing before they return to the Netherlands on 14 June. In addition, another container filled with building material has been donated towards the clinic. Its due for arrival in Durban in early June. Thank you for all those who made this possible.
May 1, 2008 Outreaches planned for the rest of 2008
1) We are planning to host a medical student group from a Cape Town universities in Zavora during June/July. They offered to help with the construction.
2) A team from a Gauteng mission station aim to visit the Zavora, Mozambique clinic during July
3) In September we plan another medical outreach with World Challenge in the poorer communities of South Africa
4) We are planning our next Angola medical outreach for November this year
5) The Dutch Building team plans to return to Zavora during August and October to finish the construction of our clinic
April 15, 2008 Counting the Cost After weeks of planning Mario Rocha, our Portuguese translator and myself left for Mozambique on 28 February. To assist us with the construction a Dutch team, lead by Dr Paul Zuidema and Gerrit-Jan Vierhuizen met us in Maputo. They also shipped a 20 ft container along that was filled with building tools and material donated by our many Dutch friends. ..[more]

During September and October of 2007, Doctors For Life’s (DFL) ‘Aid to Africa’ division hosted a team from World Challenge Medical Missions. Together with Dr Eugene Smith (a specialist physician) and his wife and right hand Arlene, DFL held medical clinics in four of South Africa’s provinces at 7 different locations. More than a thousand patients received medical care while approximately 15,000 medicines ..[more]
March 20 , 2008 Support for the Mobile Clinic A German journalist Aleta Sopha, sent news that they are almost ready to start constructing the mobile clinic unit that she has been doing fundraising for for the past few years. She recently arranged a beneficiary concert in Northern Germany. The clinic could fit on Aid to Africa's MAN all wheel drive truck. Thank you Aleta!

Doctors For Life International (DFL) is encouraged by the move towards submitting Traditional African Medicine (TAM) to scientific testing and clinical trials. February 3, 2008 Donated Container on its way to Zavora Following the death of Danie du Preez, project leader of the construction of Aid to Africa's first clinic in Mozambique (Zavora), we are encouraged by the tremendous support we continue to receive. Developments include the donation of a 20ft container, filled with building materials and tools, that is on its way to Zavora. January 30, 2008 DON’T CREATE A LEGAL AVENUE FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN 2010 Doctors for Life International would suggest that the ANC take disciplinary action against George Lekgetho on grounds of blatant gender discrimination – i.e. telling our young women and men that selling yourself for sex is acceptable as long as you pay tax. DFL is appalled at the ANC’s Lekgetho’s call to legalize prostitution for the 2010 Soccer World Cup...[more]
January 3, 2008 Saying goodbye to 'Oom' Danie du Preez It is with sadness that we say goodbye to 'Oom' (uncle) Danie du Preez, the missionary who headed the Zavora mission station and our clinic in Mozambique. He passed away on the 3rd of January, at 10:40am. The last few days had been a physical struggle for him in hospital, as his kidneys failed and the cancer treatment started taking its toll. Despite strong objections and numerous appeals from opposition parties the South African Government refuses to follow international trends regarding a conscience clause for health professionals in respect of abortion. Most democracies have legislation to protect doctors and nurses who have conscientious objection to abortion. Recently Dr Henry Morgentaler, a pro-abortionist, known as Canada’s father of abortion stated that, “doctors should not be obliged to do things (referring to abortion) which they don't approve of themselves.” ...[more]

September 21, 2007 Parliament Fails to Address Abortion and Traditional Healers Concerns Doctors for Life International (DFL) is disappointed at the way their concerns were misrepresented in the National Council of Provinces when the Traditional Health Practitioners and the Abortion Amendment Bills adopted. During the proceedings ANC MP Faith Mazibuko stated that DFL’s concerns “smacked of discrimination” and were “insulting and disrespectful” to other cultures. She added that DFL failed recognised that the Abortion Amendment sought to protect women and children. ...[more]

September 08, 2007 Doctors For Life Welcomes Warning Lables on Booze The SA Government should be commended for the new regulations that require warning labels for alcoholic beverages which highlights the negative effects of alcohol consumption. This legislation reflects the cutting edge of world wide trends. It is no surprise that the British Public Health Minister Caroline Flint also announced in May 2007, that a voluntary agreement has been reached to put similar warning labels on Britain’s alcoholic beverages by the end of 2008. ...[more]
