August 3, 2004 Life Child update by Rachel, DFL Volunteer Once a month, Life Child has to make the monthly rounds delivering food to some of the daycare centers. This takes place in the beginning of each month and it involves driving to a nearby town to purchase groceries that the orphans will need for the month and bringing it to their center. We deliver food to Mthaleni, Esifuleni, Wasbank and Table Mountain which are all approximately 2-3 hours drive away from the office. Each center takes a day for the whole process of food delivery. We leave in the morning as a team of about four and arrive to the center with the food about noon. The orphans all get excited to see visitors come and anxiously stand around the vehicle to see what is going on. Most will jump right in and help unload the food and put it in the storage area. After checking on the center and the kids as well as visit for awhile, we make our way back home. At one of the centers, Wasbank, we brought a camera to take some pictures, of which the children loved to be in. One girl approached me and said, βCan you take a picture of us under the tree?β (Pointing to some friends by her) She was the only one there who could speak some English. They stood by the tree and as I took out the camera it seemed like all the other kids were suddenly nearby and got in the picture too. These children are so precious and are just yearning for someone to give them love and attention. As it is written, β...for of such is the kingdom of heaven.β |
